Claudia Lanius' vision was to create timeless fashion that feels good both on the skin and on the conscience. Her vision became reality in 1999 when the German brand Lanius was founded, creating feminine and unique fashion without compromising transparency, fair working conditions and sustainable raw materials. The collections include easily combinable knitwear, shirts, dresses and pants.
The brand is GOTS certified and uses materials controlled by independent parties such as CERS and Control Union. Striving for sustainability, the cotton, silk and linen used in their collections are organically cultivated while some other materials used are hemp, vegetable-tanned leather, modal® and tencel®. Modal® and tencel® are cellulose fibers extracted from raw material wood. Compared to rayon their fiber production is remarkably more ecofriendly due to its closed loop system. Lanius acquires their wool from mulesing-free farmers and their vegan products have been given PETA’s vegan label.
Lanius knows each of its production facilities personally and pays frequent visits to them. Together with its partner Remei AG Lanius supports the studies of its farmers’ children in India. Remei AG’s BioRe® Foundation strives to improve organic and biodynamic agriculture in India and Tanzania with a human rights-based approach. The foundation focuses on promoting the cultivation of organic cotton as sustainable livelihood and improving the living conditions of small farmer communities through social projects.
